The 7th of august I rode in melsungen (gemany). Like many many tracks this year, this was my first time here. It took a little figuring out the track, but after a smal setup change I felt good out there and had a good 4th place in the first heat. Full of confidence I went in to the 2nd heat and got a nice 3th place. It looked like I was pretty much guaranteed with one more heat to go, then we made a mistake that shouldn't ever happen. I was under the impression I had gate three in the last heat and had the helmet color (white) to go with this gate. Turns out I was on the outside gate (black-white/grey). By the time the problem was clear the two minutes till the start were over and I got disqualified before the tapes even went up.
This of course was a absolute disappointment and from here on I was depended on what the other riders scored to make the final. I was tied for 6th place, but fortunately for me I had a better score according to the rules. This sounds complicated, but 3, 4 and x are better than 2, 1 and 4 according to the FIM rules.
So I made it with some luck into the final, but had the worst gate. After three laps in 6th place I finally found a way past in the last corner finishing in 5th place. With all point collected over the day this meant a final result of 6th, what could have been better if it wasn't for that mistake. All and all I am still pretty pleased with my performance as riding went well against some of the worlds best. Now I'm looking forward for next weekend with a meeting on both saturday and sunday.
